Here’s my modified Way Too Cool ultraviolet lamp with it’s 12 volt battery pack.
It’s got 26 watts of shortwave power and 13 watts of long wave. When using such a powerful ultraviolet radiation source, eye and skin protection are required for safe operation.
Using such a powerful lamp is a mixed blessing. It emits a lot more UV than my 4 watt lamp. But it also emits a lot more visible light. For most specimens, the increased radiation greatly enhances the fluorescence. With a few specimens, the increased radiation doesn’t increase the fluorescence as much as the added light overpowers it.
